Salt bond

A salt bond is a formal sign of hospitality offered by a host to a guest and is prevalent in Zakharan culture.

As the name suggested, salt bonds are a formal bond when the guest consumes salt from the host’s table. Salt bonds typically last for three days, during which the host assumed full responsibility for the guest’s welfare. Guests under protection from a salt bond also agree that no harm will befall the host as well, either by themselves or any member of their family. In fact, many Zakharans honor salt bonds long after the three day period end, extending courtesies when the two parties meet elsewhere in the future.
